An obituary for Johann Gruber, a member of the 738th Regiment, 118th Jäger Division, killed during the fighting against the Partisan I Dalmatian Brigade (XXVI Division) on the island of Hvar, on 31 March 1944 (on the last day of the fighting, during the Partisan retreat from the island). The obituary reads: "In the Christian memory of our beloved brother, Corporal Johann Gruber, a farmer in Eugendorf, who, on 31 March 1944 in World War II, far from the homeland, on the island of Hvar (Dalmatia), at the age of 31, died a hero's death for the fatherland. May he rest in peace!" As can be seen in the photo, he was a holder of the Iron Cross 2nd Class.
