MPs of the 13th SS Mountain Division checking papers of two Muslim civilians (a man and a woman) at the entrance to Brčko, near the Sava Bridge (the Brčko–Gunja crossing; seen in the background is the Town Hall). According to the original photo caption, the Muslim woman is obliged to lift her niqab (veil) and confirm her identity before the soldiers for security reasons, because the Partisans persistently try to infiltrate the cities disguised as civilians. Judging by her shy but warm smile, the atmosphere is friendly and the scene has probably been prepared, i.e. staged by the propaganda reporter. Although they wear Muslim fezzes on their heads and Croatian coats of arms on their sleeves, the soldiers (that is, NCOs) checking papers are, in fact, Germans (SS runes and an "Old Guard" insignia are noticeable on their tunics, which were worn exclusively by Germans, members of the Party and SS).

Original caption: "The veil is lifting. Since members of the Bolshevik gangs in the Balkans keep trying to infiltrate the cities [disguised] as harmless civilians, the passers-by have to identify themselves. In her passport photo, the Muslim woman is unveiled, so now, in order to prove [her identity] to the soldiers of a Bosnian SS volunteer mountain division, who are on patrol, she has to lift her veil."
