Operation "Axis". Immediately after the capitulation of Italy, the Germans began disarming Italian troops and taking over their occupation zones; simultaneously, a general Partisan uprising broke out on the Adriatic Coast. One of the most important places in the area was the city of Dubrovnik, towards which the (reinforced) 2nd Regiment of the SS Division "Prinz Eugen" was sent. The regiment captured the city with the support of aviation, after heavy fighting with the superior enemy forces, taking prisoner over 30000 Italian soldiers. Pictured, the Band of the "Prinz Eugen" Division parades across the famous Stradun, Dubrovnik's main street (sticking out in the background is the city bell tower).

Operacija "Osovina".
